Subject Background
To understand the complex interactions and dynamics of the property market, the property professional needs to understand how financial markets work, how property development projects can be successfully carried out and how legal cases are constructed and won. Together with a thorough examination of the factors that determine residential, commercial and industrial property values and worth, these are key issues addressed in the MSc Real Estate Management and Development degree.

The MSc in Real Estate Management and Development course is focussed on industrial and professional relevance, ensuring that graduates of the course are quickly able to make a positive and effective contribution to the success of their working environment, and the development of their own professional careers.

The course is suitable for graduates with an interest in pursuing a career as a general practice chartered surveyor with a focus on commercial or residential property valuation, development, management or investment.

Admission
· A good (minimum 2nd class) honours degree in a relevant discipline, And/or
. A Bachelor degree from HWU with at least 4 years of working experience, And/or
· Full membership of a relevant professional institution, And/or
· Equivalent UK/overseas qualifications which may be considered on an individual basis

Course Structure
The course is offered on a part time study basis ( 18 months)
For the MSc, students undertake eight taught modules plus the research dissertation.
Semester One

Assessment:
All assessments are by the Heriot Watt University.
All examinations are administrated between the University and the British Council.
All Examinations are in Singapore in the months of May, August and December.
Invigilation is by the British Council

Assessment is by a mix of modes: essays, reports, written examinations, individual and team projects, and seminar presentations. Students choose a topic for their dissertation/project report that aligns with the research interests of staff in the School and/or relates to aspects of their employer; or interests that they wish to develop further. On completion of this course graduates will be able to:

  • Convey knowledge and understanding of, and apply specialist skills within, scientific, technical and business areas of landed property, consistent with the training requirements of general practice chartered surveyors.
  • Draw upon a sound foundation of knowledge and understanding of the practices and procedures of surveying and the property industry.
  • Demonstrate sophisticated intellectual and research skills proficient for a professional career.
  • Evaluate complex problems and formulate original ideas and proposals relevant to the built environment.
  • Appreciate the values, ethics, responsibilities and rules governing professional general practice surveying, and the need for professional integrity when advising clients

Course Fess:
$18,500 plus GST, payable in three terms.
1st term: 40%, 2nd Term: 30% and 3rd Term: 30%.
100% educational loans are available.

Intakes :  Sept, Jan, May.

Other Information:
All classes are conducted at the  Bestway Trent Global  Centre  (Twice weekly 7 to 10pm)
